Final Destination is probably the most misunderstood stage in the Super Smash Bros. series, and carries some bigger implications for platform fighters as a whole. Let's talk about why!

    Mementos is such a cool stage, it’s my favorite stage to play on. Both as a persona fan, but also it’s just an awesome layout… But banned… 😔

    Bewear's one of my favorite Pokemon. It's themed around hugging strangers and accidentally crushing them. You can't tell me that's too basic or generic for Smash. The uppercut it does from the Pokeball is a horrible translation.

    To everyone complaining about this - it’s because competitive smash players would rather have *character* variety than *stage* variety. Melee shouldn’t be Fox-only, so they ban stages (like Temple in the clip) that allow fast characters to camp. Slopes provide a bunch of already powerful characters in Ultimate with overly powerful advantages, so that’s why those stages get more scrutiny. They’d rather ban stages than ban fighters who abuse those stages

    as a casual player that would come with my more hardcore friends to local tournaments, wrapping my mind around the litany of rules, illegal stages, ‘stage bans’ or whatever they’re called and every other player-unfriendly policy I had to study beforehand just drains all the fun out of playing a game I have thousands of hours in at home. Like what the hell do you mean I can’t do Omega Form Alrest? Whose life is being ruined by pretty backgrounds ???

    Don't even need to watch; The problem is that competitive morons will comp all of the fun out of a game. Wanna play with items on? Pack your earplugs for daring to request such a thing, because they will seethe and mald more than a janny cleaning up some sneed. Fun maps? Forget it. You are ONLY allowed to play on the most boring, basic-bitch maps or else tubby is gonna have an aneurysm. 4 player free for all? He hurls death threats and waddles out of the room. Goddesses above, i fucking hate smash bros. Way to take a party game and ruin it. You took FUN and made it UN-FUN. HOW'D YOU EVEN MANAGE TO DO THAT?!?

    2:17:03 That’s exactly why more video game controllers should have the Wii U layout. I personally find controlling the right stick with my index finger way more comfortable than clawing, and it’s probably what the devs had in mind when designing the game

    haven't gotten too far into the vid yet, but i enjoyed pm's final ideas for changing ganon. they did have to keep a lot of the old moveset, but the changes they did make, mainly giving him the float on n-spec (especially this, imo) and speeding up utilt were great ok, time to see what you come up with!

    I agree that other platform fighters have taken the absolute wrong idea from Smash's ban list. They shouldn't be looking at Hyrule Temple and Peach's Castle and saying "this doesn't work". They should be looking to add system mechanics to the game that MAKE them work. Like, say you're bounced into Peach's castle, well then the game can put your character into a wall-splat state the first time you connect, enabling combo extensions, but if you splat against a wall a second time in the same combo you deflect off and become invulnerable, something like that. Incorporate the weird edge cases into your system mechanics so that they are consistent, predictable and *fair* and I don't think anyone has any problem with weird stage geometry. It's like a bunch of cave men who heard Grod say "FIRE BAD" one time and haven't thought about using fire ever since, rather than figuring out that fire can be good if you don't put your hands in it.

    On the topic of the jewelry shop (even though I’m like three years late to the party here), I’d like to point out that the amber earrings act as a nice alternative to the soldier helmet as they provide the exact same defense while also allowing you to see Link’s head without having to *remove* your headgear

    So basically you turned Ganondorf into the ostrich as opposed to meta knight's sparrow or fat cpt. falcon and added a lot of lore representation. I love it. Heavy meta knight is my favorite gameplay idea ever.

    Im glad you brought up the visuals on FD being distracting or sometimes harmful to look at. Sure its cool for watching a set but it often distracts me because of how fucking BRIGHT it can be. This is especially true for Ultimate, since it is capable of more visuals. Even other stages can be equally distracting, like Hollow Bastion and Yygdrasil's Altar (i probably spelled that one wrong but whatever). Im just glad im not the only one, it seems like im the only one who complains about it in my scene lol

    while some i undertstand, sometimes I just feel that taking away barley even minor changes is kind of a bummer. liek asymetric stages or close blast zones...why ban those when they make interesting variants and can be coutner picked or map ban (player selected rather than just automatic) its like shooters and players despising anything that isnt perfect daylight with the perfect weather and ONLY the most optimal of settings...Kinda makes the fun of learning to adapt...nothing.

    The simple answer is yes competitive smash in every aspect is too far. It’s what happens when every scrap of data is ripped apart and overanalyzed for years on end in a party game that wasn’t designed with comp play in mind. Even though smash is a fighting game at its core it’s also a silly “look at this character hit that character” game so it’s not gonna be balanced well and players/officials will over correct

    I’ll be completely honest- Smash Bros. is the ultimate outcome of a game clearly not designed to be competitive becoming an Esport. I love ya Smash players, but you’re arguing about a series entirely pitched on the idea of having Nintendo characters whack each other over the head with hammers and you want me to treat it like Pro-Level Tekken. Just… no lol.

    I get banning stages that open up windows for certain characters to perform infinite combos or circle camping, but why can't we just agree that it's "against the spirit of the game" or something like how wobbling was banned for a while or how you can only play Zelda OR Sheik, and even beyond that banning stages like gentile slopes or asymmetric design? Like... stage design is an element of the game, and knowledge over what is advantageous for you or what works against you is something you should play with/around, not ban and avoid like the plague, there's a reason for stage striking, best of 3, and counterpicks so let THAT be the balancing factor, not banning 90% of the game to force 'perfect neutrality'. The Final Destination/Battlefield supremacy makes me roll my eyes and puke a little. It's unbearably boring, and to me, it seems against the true spirit of the game

    For me if each generation has a fighter rep including the missing ones of Gen 3, gen, 5, gen 8, and Gen 9 Gen 3 rep: Gardevoir Gen 5 rep: Krookodile Gen 8 rep:Rillaboom Gen 9 rep Tinkaton, Gen 10 rep: psuedo legendary Pokémon or mythical Pokémon rep.

    Over-designing a stage can be rather tricky as well tho. Depends on the game and the characters fighting, but it can quickly end up with one player camping the top platform(s) with the other having no hope of a decent approach. I do agree that a stage actually designed around the character roster of the game can be complex and somewhat balanced. Although to get that, you need a dev that both understands how their game is played in a competitive sense and how to design stages well.

    This is how my friends all want to play, no items on a flat map. It's incredibly boring. I love smash bros for the sheer chaos of it all. Getting smashed by a home run, into someone else using the hammer, redirected into the x-bomb, and then launching off the stage at a billion miles an hour is the funniest thing to me

    But like the famous first level would have worked and really well too since it is basically just Moray Towers but slightly different, before this video I didn’t even know Donkey Kong had levels after the 1st one, I just assumed they took the design of the platforms from the game and made them in a weird configuration

    Am I crazy for thinking the specials on Kirby should change with the ability you obtain from another fighter? Like sword characters give you sword ability with specials and moves from the original game he’s from. Rushdown characters giving you fighter, inkling giving you paint brush 😂. Theres so much options but i doubt they’ll make a change like that.

    It has absolutely gone too far. If you're going to do that, then just go the full way and remove the models and textures. Just play with wireframes and hitboxes so that there's no distractions. Simple. Otherwise, get your filthy competitive mitts off!

    Things get banned cuz yall are cowards who can't adapt. So many so called "pros" wanna whine about stages, items or even characters, trying to pull the skill card when in reality a truly skilled player should be able to do well and adapt to ANY combination of those things. You aren't a genuinely pro if you have to remove damn near all gameplay elements to be good. And that's to say nothing of that nonsense gripe of items being uneven. Where they appear holds no relation to the players, everyone has an equal chance of getting them in any given match. Yet the counterpoint used against? "Nuh uh" It's honestly pathetic and nothing more than competitive players refusing to accept they aren't as good as they think they are. Frankly I suck a lot of the time, but at least I got the balls to admit it.
